Lead-acid vs lithium: which battery fits your electric moped program?

The lowest purchase price is not always the lowest operating cost. Compare weight, cycle life, charging, replacement logistics and customer expectations.

The commercial difference

Lead-acid batteries are widely used where initial price and simple local replacement matter most. Lithium batteries are typically chosen when lower weight, removable packs, longer cycle life or premium positioning justify a higher initial cost.

Fleet buyers should model total cost

Estimate replacement frequency, downtime, charger inventory, pack handling and local service capability. For high daily utilization, a more expensive battery can make commercial sense if it reduces replacements or supports quick swapping.

Specify more than voltage and capacity

  • Battery chemistry and cell supplier
  • Nominal voltage and usable capacity
  • Continuous and peak discharge capability
  • BMS protections and communication requirements
  • Charger voltage, current and plug
  • Pack enclosure, water protection and mounting
  • Warranty conditions and replacement availability
